Solidarity with Solidarność

Swiss Cartography

Solidarity with Solidarność

It is under this banner that a large movement of support for the Solidarność union and Polish society is being established in Switzerland, as it is around the world, following the imposition of Martial Law in Poland on December 13, 1981

Within Swiss society, a number of initiatives are launched. Even so, the Confederation's diplomatic strategy remained cautious about taking a clear-cut position. Like the majority of Western countries, it opted for non-intervention in Polish affairs, leaving the Poles themselves to resolve their own problems.
The presence of an official Union Delegation,
Solidarnośćblocked in Switzerland by the state of siege, was a rallying factor that allowed various initiatives to crystallise during the 1980s.
